Blog Post on Beauty in Black: Tyler Perry’s Bold Dive into the Dark Side of Success.
I would like to talk about my favorite series on Netflix. At the moment my favoirte on is by Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black on Netflix does exactly that. It’s a story about power, and the hidden price of success, set against the backdrop of the beauty industry. It’s a story about survival especially for women navigating a world that wasn’t built to uplift them. It was so good Tyler started with 9 episodes and the same year he had to add 7 more episodes. It was a hit. I am not a person who will sit down and watch something but this I finished in 1 day went he uploaded it.
What’s the Show About?
Beauty in Black are two women Kimmie, a young woman trying to find her way after being kicked out of her home, and Mallory, a powerful businesswoman who runs a cosmetology school. Their lives collide in ways neither of them could have expected, revealing deep secrets, betrayals, and the dark reality behind Mallory’s and her husband’s seemingly perfect empire.
Why It Hits Different
What really makes Beauty in Black stand out is how it explores the cost of ambition. So often, we see stories about people fighting their way to the top, but this one asks: At what cost? Kimmie and Mallory’s journeys show how success, especially for Black women, often comes with sacrifices—sometimes ones they don’t even realize they’re making until it’s too late. Kimmie started as a stripper and ended up being married to a billionaire. And let’s talk about the performances Taylor and Crystle Stewart bring so much depth to their characters. You don’t just watch their struggles; you feel them. Kimmie’s desperation, her sister being lost, they are trapped and they can’t get out, Mallory’s husband’s family being a mess drive it all comes through in a way that makes you invested in every twist and turn.
The Buzz and the Backlash
Like anything Tyler Perry touches, Beauty in Black has sparked a lot of conversation. Some people love the drama, the twists, the unapologetic portrayal of power struggles. Others think it leans too much into shock value, especially with some of its more intense storylinesOne thing’s for sure—Netflix sees the potential. The show was renewed for a second season which has to come out at the end of 2025 or start of 2026 which means there’s plenty more drama to come.
One of my favorite episodes is the last one, episode 16.On episode 16 of Beauty in Black is a moment in the series, where Horace (molly father in law), a character who has often operated independently, is very different then his sons. He sees his 2 sons as useless, he thinks they don’t deserve his money, all his family members want Horace to die and since Horace will die and time or later he turns to Kimmie for help she was always loyal to him and helped him. Kimmie, who has navigated her own challenges throughout the series, now holds power in a way she may not have expected. His whole family will hate Kimmie now and let not say that Kimmie was sleeping with Molly’s husband. The way the Bellaries handle this crisis could redefine their place in the story. Are they willing to adapt, or will their downfall be inevitable? If Horace die how will his family act with Kimmie, their new stepmother. This episode stands out because it challenges the characters in unexpected ways. Horace asking for help suggests a level of trust or a lack of options, while the Bellaries’ struggle forces them to confront their own limitations. These dynamics make the episode not just engaging but thought-provoking, as it explores themes of power, survival, and shifting alliances.
Final Thoughts
I keep coming back to Beauty in Black because it’s more than just a guilty-pleasure drama. It forces you to think about the lengths people go to for success, especially in a world that constantly tries to push them down. It’s about resilience, power, and the fine line between ambition and self-destruction.
Go on and watch it
